Robert Kirkman's well written comic book series has been an ever increasingly good read over the years. When I heard that Frank Darabont (Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, The Mist) was going to produce a pilot for a TV series, I was in Seventh heaven but sceptical. Well, it has finally been given a greenlight by AMC. See the above link for the story
